'Computer consumption in Pak market up 20pc'

LAHORE: The Country Sales Manager of Acer Computers, Ijaz Anwar, said here on Saturday that annual consumption of computers in Pakistani market has increased to 150,000 with an annual growth of 20 percent to 25 percent.

He was talking to newsmen after the inaugural ceremony of two days computer exhibition entitled "Millennium Expo Computer Exhibition" organised by the Acer Computers in collaboration with Computer Super Market here at a hotel on Saturday.

He said Pakistan was a growing market of computers due to which the Acer had decided to establish its first office in Pakistan. This office would start functioning during next two or three months, he added.

Ijaz Anwer said that the Acer would also consider establishing its manufacturing plant in Pakistan in future. He said it had become the second largest selling brand in the computer market of Pakistan while the Acer CD ROMs and Acer scanners were the number one products in Pakistani market.

Referring the recent visit of Ralph Tang, Managing Director of the Acer Computers to Pakistan, he said that the Acer Computers had offered its full support to Government of Pakistan for the computerisation of its various departments.

He said the Acer had got significant share in the computerisation of banking and education sectors of Pakistan and added that now the Acer was planning to target manufacturing as well as services sectors.
