Azim calls upon
students to pursue
job-oriented
studies

KARACHI: The chancellor of the public sector universities in the province and Governor of Sindh, Azim Daudpota, on Saturday called upon the students to pursue job-oriented studies so that finding a gainful employment becomes easy for them.
Daudpota was delivering his presidential address at the Convocation -- 2000, at Valika Cricket Ground, in University of Karachi. The convocation was largely attended by the students admitted to bachelor, master, M.Phil., MS., MD., and Ph.D. degrees, select guests, and faculty members.
The Sindh governor said the rate of unemployment was gradually going up and pursuing studies in such subjects which do not promise immediate employment were adding more educated to the group of unemployed people.
He asked the teachers to guide students in subject selection.
Congratulating the students on their achievements, the governor observed that almost 90 percent recipients of degrees and honours and gold medals were girls.
He said it was a good omen. He wished them well in their future pursuits and advised them to continue their perform once well in whatever field they are absorbed.
He congratulated the KU Vice Chancellor Dr. Zafar H. Zaidi, on the hard work he had done to improve the standard of education, discipline, and create a peaceful atmosphere in the campus.
The governor said that the quality of education had substantially gone up and for that the vice chancellor deserved a very hearty congratulations.
KU Vice Chancellor Zafar H. Zaidi said in his address of welcome that the University was holding the second consecutive convocation on the appointed date, day and time. This was an achievement for which the University deserved all praise.
He said whatever progress, academically or otherwise, the university had made, became possible with dedication and support from the faculty and other staff of the University.
The vice chancellor said that he has devoted his energy towards computerisation in which progress has been made.
With the co-operation of the Pakistan Steel Mills, pay-roll of the staff has been computerised. Following this, the examination system and compilation of results are also being computerised, he added.
He said by March 2000, the University would become internet service provider. It would be followed by putting all the department connected through internet. However, this would be done in phased manner. There would be a website of the University.
For the establishment of the Website university alumni in America, and Britain have pooled their resources and the project would be completed by their financial assistance.
Later, the governor distributed gold medals to the position holders in various subjects.
