KARACHI: A Unicef team visited Habib Oil Mills (HOM) on Saturday to witness the mills processing facilities with regard to vitamin-A fortification.

The company said that Niger Fisher, regional director, Unicef for South Asia and Stephen Umemoto, Unicef representative in Pakistan visited HOM with special reference to current procedure of ghee/cooking oil fortification for vitamin-A.

The Unicef funded vitamin-A fortification project is based on private-public-Unicef partnership approach.

In the pilot project the HOM, in collaboration with eight other ghee mills in Sindh, is voluntarily upgrading its vitamin-A fortification process and quality assurance on the line, carried out by the Unicef in Philippines.

Depending on the success of the pilot project, the standardised procedure of vitamin-A fortification and quality assurance would be voluntarily adopted by majority of ghee-cooking oil manufacturers all over the country.

It said that the visiting team was impressed of the quality control procedure and methodology in the manufacturing process.
