Driving licence stamps shortage creating problems
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Non-supply of driving licence stamps to post offices by the Revenue Department is causing difficulties for driving licence holders to get their licence renewed.
This correspondent visited a number of post offices including GPO Sadar, GPO I I Chundrigar Road, Head Post Office Gulshan-e-Iqbal and others. All these post offices had no stamps for driving licence and arm licence .
People present at various post offices seeking renewal of driving licence said that they were running from one post office to another to get the licence renewed but all these efforts have gone waste.
A person seeking renewal of his driving licence said that it was very difficult to take leave from office just to get the driving licence renewed or run from on post office to another post office to get renewal stamps. It may also be noted that traffic police do not realise that it is not the fault of driving licence holder that they cannot get the licence renewed. Magistrates recognise also do not this problem.
It is the general opinion that the driving and arm licence renewal procedure should be changed and come method should be evolved to ease this problem.
One post-master said that supply of driving licence and arm licence stamps remain a continuous problem for them. "We send request for 300 stamps, keeping in view of our requirement for a week or so whereas we get only 100 stamps and this stock exhausts in a day or two. This creates shortage of licence stamps," said a post-master shifting responsibility.
