Broadening of tax net to benefit common man: CE

Islamabad: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday emphasised the need to reduce the rate and number of taxes, and directed the authorities to further broaden the tax base.

Addressing the National Security Council (NSC) meeting here the Chief Executive said broadening of the tax net would benefit the common man in the long run.

He said that the Army could undertake the documentation of the economy to ensure enhancement of revenue collection.

He informed the meeting of the steps initiated by the government for the economic turnover of the country.

The Chief Executive told the meeting that provincial accountability bureaus were being set up in order to expedite and enlarge the accountability process.

He said the Army Monitoring System was also being strengthened to collect and provide all relevant data so that those who have looted the country do not go unpunished.

The Chief Executive also briefed the NSC about the latest national, regional and international developments.

Lieutenant General S T H Naqvi (Retd), Chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau presented the report of the bureau and the pattern of forthcoming election of local bodies, the sources added.
