95,000 buffaloes, cows shifted to pens outside Faisalabad

KHALID ABBAS SAIF

FAISALABAD: The district administration has completed the operation to shift 95,000 buffaloes and cows from the city to buffalo colonies and is considering a proposal to give cash prize of Rs. 2,000 to informers.

A spokesman said on Thursday the massive operation has been completed without favouring any individual. He said that complaint cells have been set up in all Fire Brigade stations in various parts of the city while special squad comprising 25 persons have been deputed to take immediate action on the information about the presence of a buffalo or cow in the street.

The squad will not only take the cattle into custody but also take action against its owner, the spokesman said. Citizens can also file their complaint on the following telephone numbers at the fire brigade stations: Central Fire Brigade station outside Karkhana Bazar 6141000, 613600 and 16; Satiana Road Ñ 44589; Sargodha Road ÑÊ52016; Jhang Road Ñ 654618, and Ghulam Mohammad Abad ÑÊ693530.

Meanwhile 30 team comprising 1,500 men have also been constituted to remove pegs and mangers from the streets, localities and bazars beside issuing warning to people storing cow-dung or dung cake.

The spokesman said that instructions have also been issued for shifting of such stocks within two days. Action will be taken on non-compliance to these directives.

The spokesman further said that the fodder and hay sellers have been directed not to sell these items for cows or buffaloes.

The spokesman claimed that a steep decline has been recorded in sewerage related complaints due to these measures as at least 50 percent less waste is now being dumped in filth depots.
