Wapda system functioning smoothly

LAHORE: Wapda power system has been functioning smoothly. A peak power demand of 7,659 mw inclusive of 170 mw export to KESC was adequately met on February 22. Its hydel and thermal power stations generated 2,254 and 2,449 mw power respectively to meet the demand, while power import from the IPPs was to the tune of 2,956 mw. The share of these sources stood at 29.43, 31.97 and 38.60 percent respectively. The total system capability including that of IPPs was 9,939 mw i.e. 2,280 mw in excess of demand. The inflows to Mangla reservoir were 10,092 cusecs and outflows were 24,000 cusecs, according to the indents from the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Wednesday which resulted in lowering of reservoir level by 1.50 feet. The inflows into Tarbela reservoir from the catchment area were 16,300 cusecs while the outflows were 50,000 cusecs as per irrigation indent resulting in decrease of 2.88 feet in the reservoir level.ÑAPP

Lecture on N-deterrence

LAHORE: Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar will deliver a lecture on 'Nuclear Deterrence Ñ its implications on Kashmir issue' at Pakistan Administrative Staff College (PASC) here on February 25 (Friday). Rapist gets 15-year RI, 50 lashes

MUZAFFARGARH: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mumtaz Munawar Khan Niazi has awarded 15 years imprisonment, 50 lashes and Rs 35,000 fine to a convict in a rape case. The court further ordered that the half amount of the fine be given to the assaulted girl. In case of non-payment of fine the convict will have to further undergo imprisonment for nine months. According to prosecution, accused Wakeel Ahmad, with the help of his wife and brother, had kidnapped and raped the younger sister of his maid servant. The learned judge acquitted the co-accused by giving them benefit of doubt.ÑAPP
