Children's condition Pakistan to host Saarc conference soon
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan as one of the six initiator countries of Child Summit held in New York ten years back, will convene Saarc meeting in Pakistan soon to prepare report on condition of children in the region for UN General Assembly session in 2001.
Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, member of National Security Council informed the regional director of Unicef Nigel Fisher, who met her that India has sabotaged Saarc summit in the recent past but Pakistan strongly believes that innocent children should be kept out of conflicts.
Dr. Attiya said as representative of Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf, she will convene Saarc meeting as she believes "children of the country are children of the region and children of regions are children of the world." "We have common issues like prevalence of low EPI, polio and condition of child girls which requires to be rectified," she added.
The member NSC said, a national committee will also be constituted to prepare country's report with reference to conventions on rights of children and Child summit's plan of action.
The Unicef Regional Director Nigel Fisher said, Unicef will reinforce its programme for Pakistan. The Unicef also supports meaningful government's goals as part of revival package. APP
