CE urged to take note of sugar mill owners' move

LAHORE: Mian Muhammad Ilyas, Secretary General, Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP), has urged the Chief Executive to take notice of the recent decision of sugar mill-owners to close down their units without any prior notice.

In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, the KBP leader stated that this action of sugar mill-owners was causing losses to sugarcane growers, as at present, a huge quantity of sugarcane had been lying in the open air in front of the mills.

He said that at a time when sugar prices were showing an upward trend, there was no justification for closing the mills.

"Sugar mill-owners want to exploit the poor sugarcane growers by making such unjustified decisions", said Ilyas

He said such uncalled-for decision was not only creating problems for the growers, but also causing loss to the national economy.
