Accountability of national wealth looters must, says Navid

Lahore: "Ehtesab has its own significance and it is imperative that those who looted the national exchequer must pay for their crimes."

This was stated by Navid Chaudhry, special representative to Benazir Bhutto, in an exclusive talk with Business Recorder here on Wednesday.

He said the accountability process initiated by the present government must keep in mind the injustice accorded to Benazir Bhutto during the previous regime of Nawaz Sharif. The role that former senator Saif-ur-Rehman played to keep Benazir out of politics during that period must be taken into account while looking into those cases.

Navid demanded establishment of an independent commission to look into the facts regarding cases against Benazir and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari.

He denied that there was any contact between the leadership of PPP and PML(N) on forming a strategy against the present government. "All the rumours regarding this contact are pack of lies," he added.

He said how PPP could struggle jointly with PML(N) for the restoration of previous assemblies, when it had already discarded those assemblies as creation of massive rigging.

He said a special committee headed by senator Raza Rabbani was already working vigorously on framing new charter for party's future line of action.

Navid said that PPP despite its mistakes had a peerless record of struggle against tyrannical regimes. "We have endeavoured much for supremacy of law and restoration of democracy in the country and will continue to do so," he added.
