NHA to control overloading

ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) is considering to set up 29 weighing stations to control overloading and establishment of a dedicated road fund for completion and maintenance of its projects.
This was stated by NHA chairman Viqar-ul-Haq Khan, while addressing the general manager conference held here on Tuesday.
He urged the construction experts to make transparent the process of construction, extension and maintenance of highways and all decisions to this effect be taken on merit.
He said, three important projects i.e. dualisation of G.T Road, Indus Highway and Pakistan Motorway are underway which can really be taken as corridor of Pakistan for international trade in future.
The meeting was told by Syed Najmul Hassan Member (Highways), Raja Nowsherwan GM (C&S) and DG(IHP) Brig Pervaiz that Karachi-Khuzdar-Quetta-Chaman highway is the shortest route to Central Asia via Afghanistan and improvement work of this project is in last stage. He said 123 km long Nokundi-Tuftan section has been opened for traffic while more than 65 percent work on Dalbandin-Nokundi contract III-A has been completed.
