Japanese investors meet on Friday
RECORDER REPORT
ISLAMABAD: Japanese investors in Pakistan are meeting here on Friday to discuss the investment climate in Pakistan, an official of the Japanese embassy in Islamabad said.
According to the Japanese trade department official in Islamabad, all the members of Japanese Association of Commerce and Industry (Jaci), which is an umbrella organisation of the Japanese private investors in Pakistan, are likely to participate in the annual meeting of the association.
Agenda of the meeting has not been made public, but sources said the general political and economic atmosphere of the country is to be the focus of the meeting.
Japanese investment is practically on a halt since the military takeover as the investors from Japan have been deterred by the sudden policy changes by the present government, sources said. They added that in a changed environment, the Jaci members are likely to review their investment policies.
The Japanese investors had formed the association to ensure smooth business activities in Pakistan. This is the 21st annual joint meeting of the association which represents Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
The association has invited Pakistani government members and representatives from the business to share their concern with regard to the economic activity in the country. "The meeting will discuss the present situation of Pakistan, measures to expand the scope of trade and investment between the two countries and conclude with a resolution," the Japanese officials said.
