Faisalabad to celebrate Basant from today

FAISALABAD: While three-day Basant celebrations are scheduled to begin in the agro-industrial city of Faisalabad from Wednesday, Basant-mania had gripped the city well-ahead of its start.

The traditional kite sellers of city have raised sufficient stocks of kites and string while professional kite flyers can also be seen in Sarwala Rajbah and other areas of the city applying a thin film of starch mixed with powdered glass to strings of their choice wrapped on log posts. This special treatment makes the string sharp and gives a cutting touch during kite flying contests.

The shopkeepers in adjoining localities have also displayed kites as the demand of kites and string is rising with the advent of Basant.

Meanwhile, Serena Hotel has also made elaborate arrangements to celebrate Basant. Rooms are booked from February, 23 to 27 to house the kite flyers coming from different cities to participate in this event.

Woman Welfare Council has also announced to organise a Basant Mela in Jinnah Garden in collaboration with Faisalabad Hoest Line Club on February, 23. A three days Flower Exhibition will also be held to welcome the spring season. This function will be held in lush green lawns and well decorated parks of Jinnah Garden. Various institutions and individuals will participate in the exhibition while stalls will also set up to cater to the needs of the visiting families.
