Clinton should visit Pakistan to prove friendship, says Munshi

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General, Aziz A. Munshi, has said the Pakistani masses want that President Bill Clinton must visit Pakistan during his forthcoming tour to South Asia, he said in an interview with Voice of America (VOA).

"We feel that if President Clinton comes, the people and leaders of Pakistan would be ready to achieve what they can during negotiations", he said.

Munshi said, if Pakistan is considered a friendly country of the United States in the region, there must be some proof of the friendship adding, "We have allied with and supported the United States against the Soviet Union."

He said, being an old ally of the United States, "we are confident that President Clinton would certainly decide to visit our country".

However, it is upto President Clinton to take a decision in this regard. "If he comes, we will welcome him", he added.

Munshi said, Pakistanis are peace-living people. Pakistan does not want confrontation with India rather India itself has indulged in tussle with Pakistan.

The (Indians) have been causing losses not only to themselves but also to Pakistan during the last 52 years, he added.

Munshi said, India should exercise wisdom giving up stubbornness and should hold talks with Pakistan. The fact is that India is not ready to hold negotiations.

To a question regarding Osama bin Laden and terrorism, the Attorney General clarified that it is a false propaganda against Pakistan because we are not involved in terrorism.

"Pakistan neither indulges in nor supports such foolish acts. Pakistan government is a responsible government and despite being a military set-up, it has the capability to check that no terrorism spreads in the region", he added. APP
