Private mobile phone cos stated for poor service

KARACHI: The cloth exporters have criticised the performance of private mobile telephone companies due to their monopoly in the market and have urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) to start its their much awaited mobile telephone service.

The Pakistan Cloth Merchants Association (PCMA) said in a statement that exporters were suffering due to unsatisfactory services of private mobile phone companies and due to monopoly in the market their services "are becoming poorer" day by day.

It pointed out that the main complaint against mobile phone companies was that they issue their bills late but disconnect the phone promptly on non-payment without giving notice. The association said that in some cases, despite repeated requests for disconnection, these companies continued to send bills to subscribers which showed poor coordination among various departments of the same company.

The PCMA suggested that to improve services of privately owned mobile phone companies, the PTCL should start its much awaited mobile phone service with a special package to businessmen. This is common in the developed world where keeping mobile phone is not only convenient but cheaper than regular phone due to special incentives which include free incoming calls.

It pointed out that the private companies, instead of offering lucrative package to the consumers, were continuing to increase their charges along with fast deteriorating service.
