KARACHI: A total of 45.67 percent of small industrial units in Karachi are consuming less than 100 units of power each per month, Brigadier, Shahid Mukhtar, Managing Director, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) told industrialists on Monday.

Presiding over a meeting of the Karachi based industrialists and associations, he said that according to KESC computer division record, 20 percent small industrial units consume less than 500 units per month and only 1.67 percent consume 6000 units per month.

He said besides this, in commercial areas 29 percent shopkeepers consume only 10 units of power per month and 1.45 percent consume less than 1000 units per month.

He said that this all happens with the cooperation and connivance of KESC staff members. "It is not possible without the cooperation and collaboration of KESC staff," he added.

Syed Usman Ali, Chairman, North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), assured the KESC MD that the association would not support corrupt practices and suggested that KESC MD should also hold meetings with associations of markets and shop-owners to overcome this

problem and get their support.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman Site Association of Industry Abdullah Rafi, Chairman, Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry Mohammed Imran, Chairman Korangi Association of Trade and Industry Manzar Alam and Chairman of Council of Karachi Industrial Associations, Farooq Bakalay.
