Chemical industry can play vital role in socio-economic uplift: Razak

Islamabad: The chemical industry can play a vital role in socio-economic uplift as its development would not only create jobs but also enhance the export of the country, Industries and Production Minister Abdul Razak Dawood said while addressing a meeting regarding promotion of chemical industry here on Saturday.

He said the government would react immediately to exploit potential for the promotion of the chemical industry.

He said the government would take into consideration the genuine demands and grievances of the chemical industry so as to redress these by taking suitable measures.

"The government believes in open, transparent and consistent system so as to frame viable policies for taking off the country export," the minister said.

He said Iraq had shown interest in purchasing 25,000 tonnes of rice and 2,000 tractors. He termed it as a significant development between Pak-Iraq trade relations after a lapse of three years.

The representatives from various chemical industries stressed the need for tangible, action-oriented steps for the promotion of the chemical industry.

They urged the government to take measures for restoration of the lost confidence of the investors, tariff restructuring, development of local technology, manpower, infrastructure and encouragement of industries based on local raw material.
