SSIC to hold exhibition of handicraft, cottage products

KARACHI: Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSIC) will organise a three-day handicrafts and cottage industries products exhibition next month with the collaboration of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) to boost export of these items.

The exhibition is planned to be held at the end of next month at the EPB Exhibition Centre and is ikely to be inaugurated by the governor of Sindh.

The SSIC decided not to charge any entrance fee the exhibition centre and also to allow the participants to sell their products.

The SSIC will invite all the foreign missions in Pakistan and send invitations to all Pakistani consulates/embassies and trade commissioners abroad to attract foreign buyers. Besides it will invite local business community to see the products produced in the country and to help boost their sale locally and in export market.

The SSIC is expecting to boost handicrafts and cottage industries products by 20 to 25 percent as a result of this exhibition

At present, total exports of handicraft and cottage industries are around 9109,000 dollars per annum excluding hand-knotted carpets and rugs.

The SSIC will invite 70 craftsmen to display and demonstrate 40 to 50 different products at the exhibition.

The new managing director of SSIC, Dr. Mohammed Khawar Jameel, has taken the initiative to hold the exhibition which will be the first of its kind in Karachi, and assigned S. M. Kaleem, Director Exports, SSIC, to make arrangements in this regard.
