Govt taking all measures to promote art, culture: Jabbar

Lahore: Advisor to Chief Executive on Media and National Affairs Javed Jabbar has said that the present government is taking all-out measures for the promotion of art and culture in the society.

Addressing the participants of the 35th Graduate award ceremony held under the auspices of the Culture & Arts Association of Pakistan (CAAP) here on Friday, he termed the 21st century as the 'century of peace, art & culture.'

He also commended the efforts of the association for the promotion of art and culture in the country. Jabbar said that he was well aware of the financial problems of theatre and radio, adding it was unfortunate that after the introduction of television in the country both these institutions were ignored.

He said that the importance of stage and radio cannot be ignored and the present government is committed to address the financial problems of these effective institutions.

The government is determined to fight against the foreign channels through adopting a scientific and effective strategy, and that is why, it has acknowledged the importance of cable television in private sector.

Chairman of the Graduate Award Committee S.M. Aafar, in his address thanked the honourable guest and said that it was a matter of great pleasure for him to announce that the association has been holding awards for the last 35 years to acknowledge the services and contribution of the artists for the society.

The ceremony was followed by a musical programme. Film and television artiste performed on the occasion.

Later, awards were given to various artistes, directors, producers and technicians associated with show business.
