Doctors advised to serve rural population
Recorder Report
Lahore: It is a pathetic state of affairs that men and women in the field of medicine and surgery are becoming status conscious, and are adopting other professions.
This was stated by Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development, Shaheen Atiq-ur-Rehman, while addressing the annual conference on 'organ protection during anesthesia,' organised by the Pakistan Society of Anesthesiologist here on Friday.
She said the young doctors, who are supposed to go in the field to eradicate sickness, disease and misery of the common man, are currently looking for administrative posts in the civil bureaucracy. It is a really saddening and pitiable condition, she added.
The NWFP Minister for Health, Population Welfare and Women Development, Shaheen Sardar Ali, also addressed the conference and said that medical care in rural and urban areas is equally important.
She stressed the need for cleanliness, specially in the hospitals.
She advised the doctors to work in rural areas where the poor people badly needed health care as well as other basic necessities.
