Intechmart-2000 achieved target, says EPB chief

Lahore: The Chairman Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Tariq Ikram has said that the bureau was undertaking the task of sector planning as well as geographical analysis and eradicating hurdles for boosting exports of the country.
While addressing the concluding ceremony of "Intechmart Pakistan-2000" here on Thursday, Tariq Ikram said that EPB was being restructured to make it a customer-oriented organisation.
He said that the country had a lot of potential for the development of exports. "We can not achieve desired results until priorities were set in the exportable items", he added.
He said that the situation had entirely changed in the country and now things were moving towards the right direction.
Talking about success of the Intechmart, he said that bringing of investment under it was not an easy task. The signing of a project worth $20 million in a short period is not a joke. He added.
Acting President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Mahmood Ahmad said that the founding of the Intechmart was successful move that provided an ideal opportunity to local as well as foreign entrepreneurs. He said that during the meetings, three project worth $20 million were signed, while nine letter of intent (LOI) were signed with the entrepreneurs of different countries, including Belgium, USA, China and Korea. He said that a total number of 220 one-to-one meetings were held during the conference.
The acting FPCCI president said that delegates of 11 countries participated in Intechmart-2000. He said that Pakistan had great potential in the fields of agro-based industry, mining, leather, leather products and information technology.
Dr. Robert G. Guemn, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Usman Ghani Khatri, and Acting Secretary Board of Investment Ahmad Shamsul Huda also expressed their satisfaction over the success of Intechmart.
