Govt plans to impose ST on cement industry

ISLAMABAD: With the Sales Tax exemption given to four cement factories, out of total 23 cement factories during previous political government the exchequer suffered Rs 4 billion loss every year.

The present government has now decided to impose sales tax on cement industry and will discuss the proposals with cement manufacturers. It will give weight to their suggestions in the final decision said an official of Central Board of Revenue (CBR) here on Wednesday.

Talking to this agency, he said that the CBR is working closely on the merits and demerits of the sales tax if imposed on the cement industry. He said that the policy in this connection would be transparent.

He said the exemption to four cement factories was given under different SROs. PPI
