Efforts on to improve F'abad traffic system

FAISALABAD: Commissioner Faisalabad Major Iqbal Ahmed Raja (Retd) has urged collaborated and concerted efforts by all civic bodies to make the city a modern and developed city of the central Punjab.
Presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday, he said that a number of steps have been taken to streamline city traffic on modern and scientific lines. However, donkey carts and encroachments have not only plagued its beauty but are also created problems for the smooth flow of the vehicular traffic. He stressed the need to shift cattle outside the city and discourage encroachments and said that civic sense must be promoted among citizens. In this connection NGOs can play a major role in educating people, he added.
The meeting decided to launch a campaign against encroachments and said that in the first phase all kinds of encroachments will be removed from Sarwala, Satiana Road, Ghumti Chowk to Municipal Corporation and Regal Chowk to Narwala Chowk. DSP Traffic told the meeting that encroachments have already been removed from Katchery Bazar, Chiniot Bazar and Aminpur Bazar.
Deputy Commissioner, Hasan Nawaz Tarar said in Jhang Bazar, vendors can occupy space of 5 feet on road from the footpath. He asked the assistant Commissioner (City) and municipal staff to evolve proper stategy to contain them within this limit.
He also directed the deputy commissioners of the three districts to take necessary measures in their respective districts for the removal of encroachments at tehsil and lower level.
DIG Tariq Masood Khusa said traffic seminar will be arranged to create awareness among people about the vehicular traffic. He said that one-way traffic system has been introduced for the convenience of people.
