Incorporation of 'shipping' in academic syllabus urged
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Sheikh Javed, Director, Pakistan Shippers' Council of the FPCCI, has urged the authorities to induct 'Shipping' in the academic syllabus at higher educational level so as to customise modern shipping trends.
He has written separate letters to Zubaida Jalal, Federal Education Minister; Javed Jabbar, Adviser to the Chief Executive; Prof Anita Ghulam Ali, Sindh Education Minister and Dr Zafar Hasan Zaidi, Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, calling upon them to create a Shipping faculty.
He said for lack of knowledge in this crucial field our trade and industry is facing various problems, that can only be resolved by acquiring proper knowledge of the subject through academic education. There could be no exposure of modern trade concepts without knowing the shipping nitty grittes, he said.
Sh. Javed also said most of the times our shipping policies do not coincide with the interest of our traders, especially the exporters. Many of the conditions printed on the bill of lading are against the interest of our cargo owners or exporters, he pointed out.
He said he is suggesting to hold a series of seminars on shipping as a regular academic subject in different educational institutions of the country soon.
