Five foreigners held with heroin
KARACHI: The Custom's drug sleuths at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport have thwarted various attempts of narcotics smuggling during the last few days and arrested a Ghanian lady, a Nigerian, a Bangladeshi besides nationals of Sierra Lone and Benin and recovered a total of 10 kg heroin from their possession.
Comfort Asamoah, a Ghanian woman, travelling on passport No. A-515883, was nabbed while she was leaving for Addisababa via Dubai by Swiss Air flight SR-395.
On suspicion, the woman was subjected to X-ray examination which confirmed the presence of drugs inside her body cavities. In Jinnah Hospital she excreted 650 grams of heroin filled in capsules.
Brendan Ontekwere Okote, a Nigerian, holding passport No. C-509690, was apprehended on February 11 while he was leaving for Lagos via Nairobi by Kenya Airways flight KQ-313.
He, too, was suspected of carrying drugs inside his body cavities and, therefore, shifted to JPMC where heroin filled capsules weighing 700 grams were excreted through medical process.
The Sierra Lone national, Davidson Emmanuel Daniel, travelling on passport No. 0164415, was nabbed on February 9 before he could board a Thai Air flight TG-508 for Bangkok.
During radiological examination he was found carrying drugs inside his body cavity. He was taken to Jinnah Hospital where heroin filled capsules weighing 300 grams were excreted.
On February 12, the Drug Enforcement Cell Staff arrested Avlessi Oscar Kola, a Benin national, possessing passport No. 98BD48291, while he was going to Addisababa by Ethiopian Air flight ET-663.
The Customs hounds recovered 5.6 kg heroin which was cleverly concealed in the false cavities of soles of assorted chappals.
Again on February 14, the DCE Staff arrested a Bangladeshi national Mohammad Abul Hashim (Passport No. 0041497) while he was to proceed to Dhaka by Emirates flight EK-610.
When his baggage was searched it resulted in the recovery of 3.5 kg brown heroin powder concealed in the false cavities of his suitcase. APP
