Eight chairmen
of Peshawar dist
Zakat committees
dismissed
PESHAWAR: The provincial administration on Tuesday dismissed eight chairmen of the local Zakat Committees of Peshawar District on charges of corruption and irregularities.
The government also terminated services of 115 other chairmen of the local Zakat Committees of Peshawar district forthwith. They were either illiterate or government servants.
Decision to this effect was taken at a quarterly meeting of the Zakat Committee Peshawar District held here with provincial Minister for Auqaf, Zakat, Religious Affairs Qari Roohullah Madani in the chair. The meeting was attended among others by District Peshawar Zakat Committee Chairman Alhaj Saeed Ahmed Jan.
According to a recent judgement of the Supreme Court, no illiterate or government employee could become the chairman of a Zakat Committee.
About 123 posts of chairmen fell vacant following dismissals, would be filled through elections which would be held shortly, the meeting decided.
Those who were dismissed on charges of corruption and irregularities included Chairmen of Local Zakat Committees of Dheri Baghbanan No 1, Mandrakhel, Pajaggi, Jogian Kalan, Mashu Gagar No 1, Shaikhan, Hasanzai, Tehkal Payan No. 2 and Circular Road No. 1
The minister expressed satisfaction over making the list of the Mustehkeen-e-Zakat computerised and expressed the hope that this exercise would be extended to other parts of the province as well.
He said that the chairmen who used delaying tactics while presenting audit reports of their committees would also be dismissed.ÑAPP
