CE calls for fair, timely distribution of wheat

ISLAMABAD: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf has called for equitable and timely distribution of wheat to various parts of the country.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting held here Tuesday which was attended by governors of the four provinces, minister for finance, chief secretaries of the provinces and other senior civil and military officers, which reviewed the state of wheat stocks in the country and took certain decisions to organise its equitable distribution.

Secretary Food and Agriculture briefed the participants about the present wheat stock position, likely produce in the coming season and other salient features on the subject.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive stressed upon the need for organised, equitable and timely distribution of wheat in the country.

He directed the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure adequate storage and preparation of a comprehensive plan for its distribution in consultation with the provincial governments.

Expressing his satisfaction that the coming Rabi crop was expected to register a substantial increase in view of the initiatives provided by the government, the chief executive stressed the need for providing incentives to the farmers.

The government would continue to honour its commitments made to them, he added. APP
