Apartheid in education
should be eliminated: Javed Jabbar
RAWALPINDI: Adviser to the Chief Executive on Information and National Affairs Javed Jabbar on Tuesday said Pakistan suffered from apartheid in education and concerted efforts should be made to eliminate discrimination in his vital field of society.
Javed Jabbar was addressing the new millennium celebrations and prize distribution ceremony of Roots School as a chief guest here at Liaquat Memorial Hall.
The adviser said, at present various education systems were in practice in the country which included matriculation system of education and Cambridge school system and the system of Deeni Madaras.
All these systems have created division in the society which should be eradicated, he added.
"We should end this disparity in education and every child should have access to quality education," he said.
The government was serious in eliminating the discrimination created in society due to different modes of education, he said.
Children of the poor should not be deprived of qualitative education as it was their right, he added.
The government and society could overcome these problems through joint efforts, he said.
About local bodies elections, Javed Jabbar said, the polls would be held at the end of the year.
He said new type of local bodies would be set up which would be empowered to manage the affairs of their respective areas in an independent manner.
The government wanted to transfer power to the gross root level, Javed Jabbar said.ÑAPP
