Fresh BEs now can
get job in engineering
industry: PEC

HYDERABAD: The Chairman of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Dr. Jameel Ahmed Khan, has said, that the Council had taken major steps for providing job opportunities to fresh graduate engineeres by moving a legislation and making it mandatory for engineering industry, firms and companies for hiring engineer graduates as trainee engineers.
He was speaking at an Eid millan paty organised for the executive committee of the council at New Hyderabad City here on Sunday. The function was largely attended by senior engineers from all over the country.
Speaking on the occasion, PEC Vice-Chairman Ghulam Sarwar Kandhar highlighted the role and achievements of the Council with regards to standardisation, accreditation and other steps taken for improving the engineering education in the country.
He voiced concern over the retrenchment of engineers from various departments and organisations on the pretext of rightsising. He said the council was setting up a cell to collect data about the retrenched engineers and take necessary steps in this regard. Engineer Shafiq Haider Musavi stressed the need of appointing technocrats/engineers on management positions in the technical organisations.
The Vice-Chancellor, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Dr. A R Memon said that the council had taken a number of steps to improve engineering education which include implementation of ISO 9000 in engineering universities buy 2002.
He said Mehran University faculty was ready to contribute their share in community development programmes.
The Hyderabad Commissioner Imtiaz Kazi appreciated the role of engineers in the nation-building projects.
Later, the PEC chairman awarded shields to professor surgeon Dr. Jan Mohammad Memon, Principal of Liaquat Medical College, Dr. Asad Ullah Kazi, Vice-Chancellor of Isra University and Dr. Mohammad Khan Jarwar in recognition of their services.
The managing director, New Hyderabad City, Yousuf Kausar Bhatti donated a piece of land for the setting up PEC liaison office.
