HYDERABAD: Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party, Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has said that the handing over of irrigation system of Sindh to the army was aimed at destroying the agricultural economy of the province and construction of Kalabag Dam.

He was addressing party workers at a dinner meeting held for him by Jalal Shah Jamot at Matiari.

He pointed out that distribution of water by the army was being made according to the formula introduced by the English rulers as a result of which the standing crop of wheat was being destroyed.

Magsi observed at that time a formula of 30 percent and 50 percent water was evolved for the Kharif and Rabi crops respectively as the cultivated area then was much less and the supply of water at that time was enough.

He said presently the command area under the three barrages had tremendously increased and the original distribution formula had become outdated and obsolete.

He appealed to the growers and the friends of Sindh to consider this problem in its true perspective.

The others who spoke on the occasion included the senior vice-chairman of the party, Haider Shahani, Hot Khan Gadhi, Shaukat Abro and others.
