Indian army exercises termed highly volatile

RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Punjab PPP President Rao Sikander Iqbal has termed the recent exercises of Indian army on our borders as highly volatile act.

Talking to Business Recorder here on Sunday Sikander said that it was a routine matter that if India and Pakistan, conducted any exercises on borders they used to give a prior notice to each other.

He said Indian military exercises on Pak frontiers this time were infact different from routine and were part of the Indian strategy to put pressure on Pakistan particularly at a time when the US president was in the process of visiting the countries in the sub-continent.

Sikander said that pressure tactics applied by Indian strategists were in fact aimed at creating a situation where the core issue of Kashmir between the two countries was sidelined and could not get its due importance.

He asked the international community to take notice of Indian aggressive posture towards an independent and peaceful country.

He said Indian exercises on Pak borders particularly at the time when Nawaz trial was on also indicated of a meaningful message to us.

The Punjab PPP chief said whatever the intent of the Indians might be,if any test was put on the nation PPP from Khyber to Karachi would support the present government in its effort to fight aggression against the country.

He, however, advised the present government to give a certain time-frame for transfer of power in the country. "The defense of the country was of prime importance and it demanded a full time concentration of the armed forces on the subject and this factor should not be ignored," he maintained.
