HBL losses into
profits: Tarin

HYDERABAD: The outgoing president of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Shaukat Tarin, has pointed out that due to the efforts of the officials and the workers of the bank a deficit of Rs 10 billion in 1996 had been converted into a profit of Rs two billion in 1999 and added that bad debts had been reduced from 58 percent to 25 percent.
He was speaking at a farewell function hosted in his honour at the Regional Headquarter of the bank here on Friday.
A large number of bank employees, zonal chiefs and bank executives from interior Sindh attended the function.
Tarin said that the world rating for the bank during the last three years had greatly increased due to its magnificent performance and now the bank is playing leading role in the development of national economy.
He said the bank had been reorganised on modern lines, the staff had been imparted professional training and the salaried and fringe benefits of the employees had been increased.
He, however, cautioned the employees that complacency was a very dangerous trend and added that journey to further improve the working of the bank would continue.
Tarin advised the employees that humility, honesty, merit, modernisation, team work and improved service to the clients were strong weapons in the hands of a good banker.
He said he could not achieve cent percent success and there was still a great margin for further improvement.
He, however, said that he wanted to set a trend for retirement when the going was good.
He said he will always remain proud of his association with and added that he was happy to note that even after his retirement this great institution will remain in strong hands.
Senior vice-president and regional chief executive of the bank Zafar Iqbal Ghauri paid rich tributes to Shaukat Tarin for his services to the bank.
