Police to place 2 platoons at Site CMC disposal
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The police department has agreed to place two platoons at the disposal of Crime Monitoring Cell (CMC) of Site Association of Industry (SAI) to curb crime in the industrial area.
Akhtar Husain Khan Gorchani, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), West, agreed to place his own two platoons at the disposal of CMC for 24-hour duty till such time as the industrialists could make their own security arrangement on which the Site CMC is working.
The SSP visited Site CMC alongwith his team to discuss security arrangements and dacoities in the Site industrial area on Thursday. The industrialists urged him to chalk out a practical plan to curb crimes. It was pointed out that within a month's time, four dacoities had occurred which painted a very poor picture of the law enforcing agencies in this area.
According to new security plans, the industrialists can ask Site CMC for police escort on salary days from 1st to 7th of every month, including advance days. The CMC will provide armed police guard who will escort the cashiers of mills from the banks up to their factories. The police guard will be responsible for the safety of cash as well as the staff member of the mills. Permanent police pickets will be established at the main banks in Site area and managers of the banks will not allow transfer of heavy amount cash without police escort.
It was also agreed that on these days, police patrolling would be increased to check the snatching of cars etc., at night, police patrolling will be intensified in areas like Pathan Colony, Bawani Challi, Mominabad, Rashidabad etc. and check the vehicles and suspicious persons.
It was also decided that no loaded or empty truck or van would be allowed to ply after 8 pm. till 8 a.m. in Site area. Such vehicles found moving in the area will be detained and kept in the compound of Site Police Station till next working day and released after confirmation from the owner.
As regard of issuance of armed licence, the SSP West assured the CMC that he would talk to the higher authorities and see that the industrialists got arms licence for themselves and their watchmen.
