260 held for power theft
RECORDER REPORT
MULTAN: A special Wapda team, headed by a sub divisional officer of Khangarh, raided Shah-Jamal Town and caught 260 power thieves while a number of defective meters were also detected.
The team imposed fine of Rs 5,12,000 on the spot on the power thieves, while Rs 100,000 were recovered for replacement of defective power meters.
Wapda authorities also removed about 2000 power meters in Muzaffargarh which were replaced against Rs 2200 each.
However, traders and citizens of Muzaffargarh protested on the imposition of fine for changing their meters and said that Wapda staff was responsible for power theft in Muzaffargarh district and they had supplied electricity to a number of villages unlawfully, consequently line loss increased considerably.
