Britain says no change to gold sales policy

LONDON: Britain said on Thursday it had not changed or halted its gold sales policy.

"We have not in any way changed our gold sales programme," a Treasury spokesman told Reuters.

Rumours of an imminent halt to British gold sales had earlier swept financial markets in Sydney, underpinning the value of the Australian dollar.

Britain last month sold 25 tonnes of gold at the fourth of a series of auctions aimed at cutting its gold reserves to 300 tonnes from 715 tonnes.-Reuters
