CE asks bankers not to fear NAB

KARACHI: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday said no bankers, except those who are corrupt and dishonest, should not fear the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

"Let me assure you that nobody should fear the NAB except those who are corrupt, dishonest and indulge in malpractices knowingly for their personal benefits, or family and friends or to political ends", he said while addressing heads and representatives of 165 banks and financial institutions at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) head office.

"Those who are professional and honest but have made legitimate decisions, which later proved wrong due to justifiable reasons, have absolutely nothing to fear", he said.

He asked banks to perform their professional duties and not to stop working for fear of the NAB.

"You should perform your professional duties. It is not fair to take refuge under the guise of fear of NAB", he said.

He said the banking system has a regulatory authority and that the bankers must take decision in the interest of economic revival and Pakistan.

"If you are doing it honestly, if it is going wrong, you don't have to bother about NAB or any other institution", he said.
