Army to help document economy

KARACHI: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday said that the services of Army will be used to document the economy.

"In three to four weeks' time, we will work out the strategy to document the economy", he said while addressing the heads of all banks and financial institutions at the State Bank of Pakistan here.

"We will certainly turn around the deficit in surplus if the Army contributes", he said.

General Musharraf said that the budget deficit could be checked if the tax net is broadened.

He said every individual will be documented under the new strategy.

He said the government will be using a stick-and-carrot policy. "But initially we will be offering the carrot part".

During the question session, General Musharraf said the accountability process will soon gain pace and the first tranche of 25 cases with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be coming up soon.ÑAPP
