Kite-flying with metallic wire banned in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Government has, under section 144 CR. PC, prohibited kite-flying using metallic wire and Tundi throughout the province with immediate effect.
According to a handout issued here on Monday, the proclamation of prohibition of kite-flying with metallic wire and Tundi has been issued due to the approaching Basant season.
The circular issued in this regard explains that according to a conservative estimate due to the use of metallic wire in kite-flying Wapda suffered a heavy loss of Rs. 731 million in the last Basant season only in Lahore due to trippings and breakdown on 11 Kv feeders, damage to distribution transformers and other equipment, besides, loss of precious human lives due to electrocation. Similar loss occurs in other towns, the circular claimed.
In addition to above, frequent interruptions and fluctuations of voltage because of metallic kite string, cause heavy damage to consumers' costly electrical appliances, besides inconvenience to the public. The menace of kite-flying with wire (Tundi) needs to be discouraged and dealt strictly.
Therefore, the Punjab Government, has imposed section 144 CR.PC and prohibited kite-flying using metallic wire and (Tundi) throughout the province, with immediate effect.
