KARACHI: The Sindh Government has decided to shift oil tankers parking site from the residential area of Shireen Jinnah Colony to Darsana Chano on Super Highway, District Malir.

The decision was taken at a meeting at the Governor House on Monday. Governor Azeem Daudpota was in the chair.

It was decided to clear traffic congestion on the National Highway and in and around Shireen Jinnah Colony.

To tackle the problem created by the continuous flow of heavy traffic on main roads, it was decided to advise the Karachi Port Trust to restrict movement of heavy traffic during the day and to begin 'night operation'. It was decided that matters relating to oil tankers would be referred to the ministry of petroleum.

Daudpota directed the officials to avoid working on different levels in different groups and asked them to pool their resources and concentrate on jointly agreed objectives under the supervision of the provincial transport minister.

The meeting also reviewed the growing parking problems of heavy vehicles, oil tankers and other commercial transport and marking of lanes for the different kinds of transport.

It was decided to provide traffic police with better vehicles and other equipment needed to control traffic violations. The meeting decided to initiate awareness programme to educate people on traffic rules.

Among others, provincial minister for transport and labour, Diwan Mohammed Yousuf Farooqui, chief secretary, Zubair Kidwai, inspector general of Sindh police, Aftab Nabi, commissioner of Karachi, Shafiq Piracha, secretary to governor Hifzur Rehman, director general of Katchi Abadis Tasneem Siddiqui, secretary transport Mohammed Sarwar Khero, CPLC chief Jameel Yousuf, and representatives of selected NGOs attended the meeting.
