100 Customs officials may be made OSDs

ISLAMABAD: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) on Monday submitted the list of corrupt, inefficient and political appointees to Chief Executive Gen. Pervez Musharraf including the names of more than 100 Customs officials.

Official sources said that the CBR is all set to send more than 100 Customs officials packing as officers on special duty (OSDs) after submitting a request along with the list to General Pervez Musharraf.

"For the time being the CBR has no plans to fill the vacant posts after the exit of these officials," said the sources, adding, "these posts may well be abolished under the rightsizing scheme."

Sources said that after purging CBR of corrupt officials another list of inefficient staffers would be prepared within six months. "If the efficiency of the department does not improve, a secret survey would be conducted to identify inefficient and corrupt officials in the second phase of the proposed 'cleansing' at the CBR", sources said.
