Kot Lakhpat jail inmates leading miserable life

LAHORE: The prisoners in the Kot Lakhpat jail were leading a miserable life due to poor condition and over-crowding, said a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in his report submitted to the Lahore High Court.

He stated in the report that against the capacity of 1043 prisoners, 2576 male and female were detained there. He was directed by the Lahore High Court to visit different jails of the province and submit his detailed report about the conditions of the jails and their inmates.

He also filed a petition praying to the court to get released three blind old men, who were awarded life imprisonment.

He also filed another petition praying to the court to direct the Kot Lakhpat jail authorities to call back seven jail inmates, who had written letters to him and they were transferred to Faisalabad district jail as punishment.

The Lahore High Court will take up said petitions on April 4.
