Pakistan concerned at Indian Muslims condition

GENEVA: Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN on Sunday expressed serious concern over future of Muslim minority in India.

"We are concerned about that population and trust that the world will do something for the Muslims in India, particularly the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Munir said at the 56th session of the Commission on Human Rights while making a statement as right of reply in response to right of reply of the Indian representative.

The Indian representative had objected to the statement made by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC.

Munir lambasted BJP led government in India for its discriminatory attitude towards Muslim minority living there.

"It is based on the extremist factions in the RSS and the VHP, basically Hindu facist organisations that believe in the racial superiority of the Hindu, the Aryan race and are admirers of the Nazis," he said.

Munir said BJP decided this far back in early 1964 that Muslims were their principal enemies and Christians at close second.

"These are the people, who are responsible for destruction of the Babri Mosque , killing of 5,000 Muslims in Bomaby in 1993 and the killing spree against Christians in 1998 and 1999," he said.

"These people (Indians) cannot by any means speak with pride of having a Muslim population, that population is in bondage," he added.

He said it was no intention of Pakistan delegation to respond to the statement made by the representative of India, adding, he thought it might be informative to add a few comments in response to their statement.

Munir said the OIC referred to a part of his country and added he believes it in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir, Munir said, is in fact a territory under dispute, according to the resolution of the Security Council and disputed nature of the territory is also shown on UN map.

Therefore, he said "there is no question of Kashmir being a part of India.".

The only claim, he said, India has, is its 700,000 troops in Jammu and Kashmir to hold by force, the Muslim people living there in bondage to India.

"They have killed thousands and are ongoing in killing every day," Munir Akram said.

In reply to Indian representative's claim that India is the second largest Muslim population, he said, "we really don't know we have not counted." "I don't think they have either," he maintained.

Munir held India responsible for forcing upon Pakistan arm race. "We are in any case obliged to be in arms race with India which it is forcing upon us; I trust they are not forcing a population race on us else."

But, he said, the rate at whcih they are killing the Muslim, 'they are bound perhaps to lose that race. APP
