IIU festival

ISLAMABAD: 13th Student's Cultural Festival of the International Islamic University, Islamabad is being held from April 3-8 in the main campus of the University at 9.00 a.m.

President Muhammad Rafiq Tarar will be the Chief Guest on this occasion while Egyptian Minister of Awqaf and Endowments Dr. Mahmood Hamdi Zaqzooq will attend the festival on special invitation by the University. The theme of this year's cultural activities is "Globalisation and the Muslim World".

Dr. Dheen Muhammad, Coordinator of this programme said that the festival includes debates, declamation contests, cultural exhibitions depicting cultural diversity in the Muslim world and sports activities.

He said other features of the festival would be dramas, parodies, literary sessions and quiz competitions. A number of seminars will also be held during this festival. The topics of these seminars will be "Islam and Globalisation", "Globalisation and Clash of Civilisations and Systems" Globalisation, Information Technology and Creativity" and "Universities in the Age of Globalisation".

Sport activities will include athletics, table tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball and Cricket. Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah, Sports Officer of the University will supervise the sport events.

Meraj Khalid Rector of the University will welcome the President while Dr. Hassan Mahmood Abdullah Latif Shafi'e, President of the University will present a brief account of the university in the opening session of the festival.

More than 3000 students will take part in these activities. Dr Abdul Malik Kasi, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs will distribute prizes among outstanding students and employees of the university at the concluding ceremony to be held on April 8 at 7.00 p.m.ÑAPP
