Dr Ishrat urges

women induction

in economic field

KARACHI: Dr Ishrat Hussain, governor of State Bank of Pakistan, has said that we have only 1.6 percent ($8 billion exports) share out of the total world exports. It shows the condition of our economy.

He was addressing the second day session of Rotary Pakistan's Conference 2000, presided over by Tariq Allawala, Governor of Rotry Pakistan, on April 2, 2000 at a local hotel.

Dr Ishrat said our economic policies since 1991, were good

theoratically not practically. Now we have opened liberal economic policy channels for foreign investment which are fully guaranteed and no registration is needed. He said we have given equal treatment to the domestic investors. There is a continuity in investment policy. We have given tax holiday and freedom to select areas of investment to the investors.

Highlighting the importance of literacy in economic development he said with literacy we could march forward on the road of economic development and uplift. So our top most agenda should be nothing, but educaiton, educaiton and education, particularly, education of women. He said Philippine, Thailand and Malaysia were moving fast due to their advancement towards literacy.

We would not be able to achieve economic progerss without active involvement of 50 percent of our women in economic activities.

He said whole world was taking advantage of women force bringing them in economic field and making them educated.
