KPT asked to issue
short landing
certificate within
a month
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: A former chairman of Customs and Port Trust Committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Nasir Chandna, has urged the KPT to issue short landing certificate within a month and pay compensation to the importer in the event of loss or damage to the goods.
He said in a statement that a former chairman of Karachi Port Trust had said in a chamber meeting that the KPT was the custodian of import and export goods and the Shed Incharge will be responsible for any damage or theft of the goods and KPT would compensate the loss. The existing position is contrary to the claim and majority of the goods are intact at the time of landing but afterwards these are found damaged or lost. In such cases the KPT issues a final short landing certificate after three months following a very complex procedure. The claim is made on the shipping company but there is no refund of custom duty as the period stipulated for filing claims is expired.
