Customs collect Rs 47.104 bn in 9 months

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Wing of Central Board of Revenue collected a gross revenue of Rs 47,104 million during July 1999-January 2000, it was learnt.
During this period, refunds on account of rebates amounted to Rs 11,665 million. Thus, the net collection was Rs 35,439 million.
Sum of Rs 6.23 million accounted for export duty and import duty amounted to Rs 45,483 million.
The amount collected on account of Iqra surcharge during the same period was Rs 1.44 million and Rs 1.23 million was collected as P.M.F.R surcharge.
The Revenue Department collected Rs 6,855 million as customs duty on import of animals, nuts and spices, while the duty from chemical and chemical products comes to Rs 3,776 million.
Motor vehicles imports generated Rs 2,708 million custom duty during this period and mineral, fuel, oil and products contributed Rs 2359 million towards import.
The amount of duty iron, steel and manufactures thereof amounted to Rs 2,499 million and machinery and mechanical appliances generated Rs 2,090 million customs duty.
An amount of Rs 1609 million was collected from coffee, tea and spices, while wood, paper and stationery generated an amount of Rs 1017 million.
Pharmaceutical products contributed Rs 442 million towards duty and beverages, spirits and vinegar generated Rs 9.97 million during the same period.
The CBR collected Rs 144 million as customs duty from cotton yarn and fabrics. However, silk yarn generated an amount of Rs 31.33 million duty.
Dyes, colours, paints and varnishes contributed Rs 945.73 million to the Revenue Department and customs duty collected from the sectors of ships, boats and aircraft came to Rs 747 million.
The amount collected from import of arms and ammunition aggregated at Rs 78 million during the period.
The customs duty collected from railway, tramway plant and rolling stock amounted to Rs 78 million while edible preparations or cereals and vegetables contributed Rs 323 million to the national exchequer.
The amounts of customs duty collected from other leading sectors during July 1999-Jan 2000 were: meat and fish Rs 6.45 million; milk, butter, cheese and honey Rs 114 million; fruit, nuts and vegetables Rs 731 million; oil seeds and miscellaneous fruits Rs 99 million; tobacco Rs 251 million; mineral fuel oils and products Rs 2358 million; perfumery, soaps and toilet preparations Rs 474 million; matches and other explosives Rs 20 million; photographic and cinemtographic goods Rs 520 million; rubbers and articles thereof Rs 765 million; leather articles and footwear Rs 39 million; wood, paper and stationery Rs 1017 million; textile articles including knitted crochetted goods Rs 119 million; glass and earthenware Rs 376 million; precious metal, stones, pearls and imitation jewellery Rs 82 million; metals other than gold, silver, iron and steel Rs 506 million; cutlery, tools, articles of base metals Rs 249 million; electric machinery and equipment Rs 1,779 million; measuring and checking instruments Rs 8.15 million; clocks, watches and parts thereof Rs 34 million; and the amount of custom duty collected from the toys, games and sports came to Rs 2.32 million.
