KARACHI: Youm-e-Ashur to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions at Karbala was observed on Sunday with due solemnity and reverence in Karachi.

Main Alam procession was taken out from the Nishtar Park where a majlis was held to highlight the significance of the day. Allama Talib Jauhari addressed the majlis.

While the majlis was still in progress, many small processions taken out from different Imambargahs of the city joined in the majlis and later became part of the main procession.

The main procession of Alam and Zuljannah passing through its traditional route Ñ M.A. Jinnah Road, Saddar, Bunder Road, Boulton Market and Kharadar Ñ terminated in the afternoon at Hussanian Iranian Imambargah. Where majlis-e-sham-e-ghariban was held in the evening.

The mourners throughout the route of their procession recited nauhas, marsias and soz-o-salam to pay tributes to the Shuhada-e-Karbala.

Arrangements were made to offer Zohrain at Tibet Centre, M. A. Jinnah Road.

The city administration had made strict security arrangements for the smooth passage of the procession through its designated route. Heavy police and rangers contingents were deployed at short distances and at sensitive places to ward off any mischief.
