One awarded death penalty
RECORDER REPORT
FAISALABAD: District and Session Judge, Faisalabad, Malik Mohammad Afzal, has awarded death penalty to Afzal Ahmed, resident of Malikwal, Mandi Bahauddin, in a double-murder case. The convict was also awarded 14 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000. The court in its verdict directed convict to pay a compensation of Rs 200,000 to the bereaved families. The court, however, aquitted three co-accused, Amjad Warraiach, former MNA, Khalid Warraiach, ex-MPA, and Bashir Ahmad.
The fifth accused, Abdul Malik, was shot dead by the security guards of the PIA during flight between Islamabad and Faisalabad, when he had attempted to kill former MNA, Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas Jat.
According to prosecution, the accused had shot dead, Mohammad Saeed, brother of former MNA, Ch. Muhammad Ilyas Jat, in 1989. The car driver, Mohammad Ashraf, was also killed in the attack.
