ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Japan have inked Minutes of Discussion here on Tuesday, which envisage balancing and modernisation of workshop facilities at Pakistan Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC), Lahore.

N.S.I Ghauri, Ministry Ind. & Production signed the Minutes of Discussion on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, while Ms. Kyoki Kuwajima of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) signed it on behalf of the Government of Japan.

A five-member delegation of experts of Japan visited Pakistan from April 2, 2000 and had discussions with the officials of EAD, PITAC, BOL, Smeda and M/o Ind. & Production.

The delegation also visited different factories and had discussions with Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association and Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers. At the close of the visit Minutes of Discussion were signed.

Through the Minutes of Discussion, the Government of Japan has agreed to revamp Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC) by providing latest technology through the technical and financial assistance for the project, which envisages balancing and modernisation of workshop facilities at PITAC, Lahore at a total cost of Rs 736.35 million.

The Foreign Exchange Component of Rs 728 million (US$ 14 million) will be provided by Government of Japan through JICA Technical Assistance whereas, the local cost of Rs 8.35 million will be financed by the government through PSDP allocations. The Japanese technical cooperation in the project comprises:Ñ

i. Transfer of technology in the field of Plastic Mould making through Computer Aided Designs (CAD) & Computer Integrated Manufacturing Techniques (CIM) and on the job training of counter-parts by Japanese Experts in Japan and in Pakistan.

ii. Plastic Mould, Design, Processing, Assembling and Tryout; and

iii. Supply of Machinery and Equipment.ÑAPP
