KARACHI: The Chairman of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), Shaikh Manzar Alam, has said the export-oriented industries of Korangi industrial area, especially textile-related ones, are sustaining colossal production losses and are not in a position to meet the target dates of export orders as a result of acute water shortage.

He said water quota for Korangi industrial area was six mgd whereas, but industries were not getting more than one mgd at present.

He regretted that tanker mafia was taking full advantage of the situation and tanker owners were charging Rs 1,500 per tanker as compared with normal rate of Rs 400 to Rs 500 per tanker.

He urged the government to take immediate steps to overcome the water crisis and restore normal quota of six mgd water supply to the Korangi Industrial Area.
